rowboat demo

hey, rowboat has an official recording, sorta

rowboat - the anniversary present demo is two poorly recorded covers that i recorded and am giving to my girlfriend on our 7 year anniversary. totally cheesy but i'm digging it.

A. oh la la (the small faces)
B. stockholm syndrome (yo la tengo)

only problem is i have no 4 minute each side tapes to record the demo on to (wonk wonk) so as soon as i order them i am going to put one in the box, as well as record 12-15 others for anyone that wants them, your packaging will all vary slightly from one another and you get to check out the horrible noises i make in my room when i'm alone

or you could check them out online

weird things my roomates do (part one of many)

- i wanted to make grilled cheese so i went downstairs and on my way down he's standing at the side of the bottom of the stairs like he's waiting for me to come down and as soon as i'm in eye contact range with him he throws his hands up and is like "i'm back! phew that was a while" then proceeds to talk to me about his life for the entire time i'm making grilled cheese, because he is in there making pasta. so while we're both making food out of nowhere he goes "brb" and runs out the door, a few minutes later the doorbell rings, so i open up the door and he's there, with one arm full of rubbermaid containers and the other arm he's holding a metal helmet with like chain mail attached to it and a face plate. he runs the rubbermaid stuff into the living room and then puts the helmet ON THE KITCHEN TABLE while we're both preparing food. i ask him what the helmet is for and he proceeds to tell me its for his super intensive medieval sparring classes, and how he needs as much metal around his head as he can get when he's fighting 6'4" dudes carrying 9' poles. meanwihle the smoke from all the cooking sets the smoke detector off so the dude starts systematically opening all the windows and doors and starts opening and closing the door over and over again and yelling at the smoke to move out of the house.

- i'm sitting here playing guitar and my amp started making this awful distortion noise out of nowhere, so while i'm trying to fix it i hear a knock on the door, i get the amp to stop, put my guitar down, go to the door, and its him, and he knocked on the door exclusively to tell me "dude, you're supposed to plug a guitar into that, not a blender"

i could not make this stuff up

roflcats

http://www.watchme.tv/e/nyanko2/

ok a few questions i'd like to pose about this video
1. whats with the logo of the movie being a robotic cat alarm clock?
2. what is this movie supposed to be about?
3. are the cats on the same level of intelligence as people in this movie, like the hold jobs and interact in society and stuff?
4. is this a real movie that people made?
5. can i buy this and play it on my dvd player in america?
6. how cute is this little guy?!?

wikipedia didn't even come CLOSE to answering any of these questions and the first two search results are sailor moon related

in the meantime while you're waiting for this mystery to get solved, enjoy this other fine multimedia endeavor involving cats

as well as scope out wikipedia's list of fictional cats, which is so long and detailed its almost impossible to read through, my personal favorite is this

i snapped this picture of the car in front of mine's buffy the vampire slayer window decal. that person clearly wants to say to the world "hey! check it out! i LOVE buffy the vampire slayer." there are somethings i guess i'll never understand.

thanks to this article i've learned that it's possible to use google's document program to publish information to a blog. so this is really just a test run of that, since blogger/blogspot is blocked by my company's firewall. really i don't and won't have the opportunity or even the want to blog from work, but its good to know that its possible.

just so this post doesn't completely lack substance, check out this fucking picture

i originally dismissed later era pavement almost flat out, always favoring the earlier, more lo-fi, rawer and more critically acclaimed slanted and enchanted and crooked rain, crooked rain. there's something to be said of the 18 song tour de force that rolling stone called scattered, sloppy and half-baked., and has been a very polarizing album for both fans of pavement and music critics alike. i'm taking the pro side on this one, as each song on this album varies from melodic and aurally captivating to a sort of endearing musical awkwardness and every one of them shows off the raw talent each member posesesses but also the muddy and smirk-laden wit that s. malkmus all but built a generation around. i know my opinion doesn't count on the matter as much as rolling stone's (although it should) but the recent release of the "sordid sentinels" edition of wowee zowee, has led to me sort of rediscovering this record, only to really discover it for the first time, this record not only matches its predecessors in sheer awesomeness, it at some points blows them away in terms of seminality and cultural relevance, and that if s. malkmus was an alien before making this record, somewhere before it came out he was involved in some kind of ufo accident and half his body was replaced by superior cyborg parts.

  1. "We Dance" – 3:01
  2. "Rattled by the Rush" – 4:16
  3. "Black Out" – 2:10
  4. "Brinx Job" – 1:31
  5. "Grounded" – 4:14
  6. "Serpentine Pad" – 1:16
  7. "Motion Suggests" – 3:15
  8. "Father to a Sister of Thought" – 3:30
  9. "Extradition" – 2:12
  10. "Best Friend's Arm" – 2:19
  11. "Grave Architecture" – 4:16
  12. "AT&T" – 3:32
  13. "Flux=Rad" – 1:45
  14. "Fight This Generation" – 4:22
  15. "Kennel District" – 2:59 (Spiral Stairs)
  16. "Pueblo" – 3:25

MOTHERFUCKER=REDEEMER

first of all, i know godspeed you black emperor "broke up" or "disbanded" or "ended their indefinite hiatus" or "questioned the meaning of expression and communication through art" or whatever a few months ago, but man, this band fucking rules and i want to talk about them. godspeed are to me, the meta-post-rock band, the one that so perfectly defines a perfectly named genre of music that using the principles of rock music, takes rock music apart piece by piece and reforms it as something completely different. godspeed takes this to the next level by pretty much making you forget conventional rock music has ever existed.
